A new member and a lovely sunny day!
Today Julie, Willow, Lisa, Steve and Jacquie welcomed Charis to the allotment to see if she might like to join our GrowAbility club. It was cooler today and the plot is looking stunning, full of wonderful vegetables and flowers. Lisa had lots of ideas of things we could choose to do - Amanda wanted to plant seeds (she’s very good at preparing the seed trays!). This is a good time of year to plant spinach- they were old seeds so she planted two trays just in case. This should give us lots of healthy greens for winter. I asked Steve if he could water them with a rose on the watering can….. he came back with a flower stuck in the spout “what are you doing Dad?” - “I couldn’t find a rose!” …… Oh Steve!!!!!
Everyone helped with harvesting - Willow pulled up beetroot, and Charis joined her to pull up some carrots. Amanda harvested baby onions from trays which Charis topped and tailed by giving the roots a trim & cutting off the leaves. The healthy leaves were saved to use like chives and the little onions will be dried out to use as ‘sets’. They will be used to grow into big onions next season. Willow helped to harvest a beautiful cauliflower for Steve to take home for dinner. Duncan from next doors plot delivered some large yellow courgettes for us to share too. We also harvested lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and peppers. We all got to take some lovely food home. Great news! Charis loved her taster session and is going to be joining us as our new member at GrowAbility.
We hope you like our photos!
