We almost can’t believe it’s been three years since we started our allotment club at Dig It Community Allotment. The plot has changed so much over these years and we have all learned so much together. Our members have never ceased to amaze us with their patience, skills, willingness to ‘get stuck in’ and the absolute joy they bring to the process of growing food from seed to harvest.
We pushed the boat out today, hanging bunting, laying table cloths, and preparing food for our guests. We had salads galore using potatoes, red onions, beetroot, French beans, courgettes, lettuce, herbs and fennel pollen - all of it grown from seed and nurtured by the groups who attend the allotment.
Today we were able to share this with Chair Patrick Draper and some of our wonderful trustees who have supported our project from the start, our fab sessional leader Lisa, Castle Ward councillor Cherry Parker and Karen from the local press came along to take photos (Look out for us in the Walden Local in the next few weeks).
Lisa was able to say a resounding, heartfelt thank you from the Dig It Community Allotment and all of us to Steve, Amanda and Wendy Lee who so generously donated the fabulous Summerhouse in memory of Steve’s father. A beautiful plaque was presented which will have pride of place on the summerhouse wall.
Lastly and worth a special round of applause was the AMAAAAAAAAZING cake our newest Trustee Jo (mostly known as Jessica’s Mum) baked and decorated. Look at the photos - it was huge and delicious - thank you Jo!
Lots of photos today - we hope you enjoy them!
